The publication of Rolling Stone’s ‘200 Greatest Singers of All Time’ list started back in 2008, honouring the very best in pop music.
However, for their newly released 2023 edition, massive powerhouses Celine Dion, Pink, Justin Bieber, Janet Jackson, Madonna and Jennifer Hudson were excluded.
“This new list was compiled our staff and key contributors, and it encompasses 100 years of pop music as an ongoing global conversation,” Rolling Stone writes, adding criteria was based on “originality, influence, the depth of an artist’s catalog, and the breadth of their musical legacy.”
However, social media users took some issue with the release, critiquing them for placing figures like Michael Jackson way down at 86 and completely excluding the likes of Dion, John Legend and Rita Moreno.
Here are the Top 10:
- Aretha Franklin
- Whitney Houston
- Sam Cooke
- Billie Holiday
- Mariah Carey
- Ray Charles
- Stevie Wonder
- Beyonce
- Otis Redding
- Al Green
