Roberta Metsola Calls for Urgent Diplomacy and Human Dignity in Gaza

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has spoken out on Facebook about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling the situation “intolerable” and urging a renewed focus on diplomacy.
Reflecting on the collapse of the latest ceasefire and hostage negotiations, Metsola emphasised that while diplomacy is imperfect, it remains the only path toward lasting peace.
In a powerful message, she stressed that “aid is not political currency; it is a moral obligation,” criticising delays in humanitarian access and the suffering of civilians, particularly children, journalists, and medical workers.
Metsola acknowledged the widespread sense of helplessness, but warned against polarised reactions and urged cool-headed diplomacy.
The European Parliament, she noted, has consistently condemned the Hamas attacks of October 7th, demanded the return of hostages, and denounced the killing of civilians in Gaza.
Metsola underscored the need to distinguish between Hamas and the Palestinian people, warning against narratives that fuel extremism.
She reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to a two-state solution and recounted her visits to Gaza and the wider region, engaging with affected families and regional leaders.
Metsola concluded by stating that despite the setbacks, peace is still possible—and this generation must commit to finding the path forward.
