Road House 2 Starring Jake Gyllenhaal Being Filmed In Malta

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici has praised Malta’s thriving film industry as Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal films Road House 2 on the islands. Owen Bonnici, joined by Film Commissioner Johann Grech, visited the set of the major production, which is being shot in several Maltese locations, including Valletta’s historic streets, the Maritime Museum, and Fort Ricasoli.
Directed by Ilya Naishuller, Road House 2 marks the first film in the franchise to be produced in Malta through the Cash Rebate programme, a scheme Bonnici said continues to strengthen Malta’s position as a premier destination for international filmmaking.
“This production is clear proof of the Film Commission’s continued commitment to attracting more international-level productions to our country,” Bonnici stated.
He added that such projects not only create employment opportunities for Maltese workers but also “provide training and specialisation opportunities for local crews, while strengthening the economy and leaving direct benefits for our businesses.”
Grech echoed Bonnici’s remarks, noting that “our country now has a film industry that operates all year round, with more Maltese working in film than ever before.”
The sequel follows Elwood Dalton (Gyllenhaal), a former UFC fighter who travels to Malta in search of a mysterious individual; a storyline that, fittingly, brings international attention to the islands’ cinematic landscape.
