REVEALED: Here’s every single celebrity who will be in Malta for Isle of MTV

Beyond headliners Marshmello, French Montana, Mae Muller, bbno$ and Shaun Farrugia, Isle of MTV Malta will welcome a who’s who of international celebrities and influencers. Ahead of tomorrow’s concert, Malta Daily can reveal the names of the celebrities and influencers will are currently, or on their way to the island for this year’s much-anticipated event.

Amongst many other influencers, models and celebrities, Love Island stars Sophie Piper, twins Eve & Jessica Gale as well as Luke Mabbott from Love Island 2020 will be coming to Malta for the Isle of MTV concert. Cam Holmes, Marvin Anthony, Chase De Moor and Nicole O’Brien from Too Hot To Handle will also join in on the celebrations.

Beyond the silver screen, we have seen an explosion in popularity of TikTok, Instagram and YouTube creators, some of which will be coming to the island to get that perfect concert shot for the Gram. From Italy, we will be joined by Tiktokers Elisa Maino and Ryan Prevedel as well as lifestyle creator Ambra Cotti.

A number of other internationally-renowned influencers and creators will join this star-studded including German creators Marco Strecker, Yasmin Bal and Antonia Boehm, British Influencer, DJ and Radio Presenter Jodie Weston and also singer-songwriter Magda Bereda.

Revolut once again accepting new Maltese customers

Times of Malta has confirmed that the popular banking app Revolut is once again accepting new costumers hailing from Malta.

This follows a report by the same news portal that Revolut had temporarily put on hold any newcomers from the island. Despite this, no direct reason for the decision was given, with Malta also removed from the list of ‘supported countries.’

Existing users were unaffected and now, one month following the temporary ban, the app started accepting new clients with a Maltese address.

A spokesperson told Times of Malta that new users can set up a Revolut account but would not divulge the reason for both the initial pause and its reversal.

Sources within the finance industry suggested to the news portal that the move was prompted by an attempt at cost mitigation and that Revolut was concerned over the cost of regulatory and risk compliance requirements from operating in the Maltese market.

One out of five students have failed Maths and Maltese O Levels

One out of every five O Level students who sat for their all important Maths exam failed, with very similar results also occurring when it comes to Maltese. Both of these subjects are two of the main core subjects, with the only other core subject being English.

Up until last year, a pass mark in all three subjects was needed in order to study at major sixth forms such as Junior College. However this rule has changed and now students don’t need a pass in all three core subjects for Sixth Form but just a pass in all three is required for any University of Malta course.

Of the three core subjects, students performed worst in Maths, with over 20 per cent of those who sat for the exam only managing an unclassified grade or better known as a ‘U’.

Stats for the Maltese exam were not far off with 17 per cent of all students who sat down for the exam obtaining a fail mark. Students performed much better in English with only 12 per cent of the year failing the exam.

However, only 184 students scored a top grade in English. Despite this, an improvement over 2021 in English was still noted. This could not be said for the other two subjects however.

Passport office introduces longer opening hours

The Maltese passport office has extended its opening hours due to long queues of people needing to submit applications.

Extending them even them to Sunday, the office will now be open between Monday and Friday from 0730hrs to 1800hrs, on Saturday between 0730hrs and 1400hrs, and Sundays between 0700hrs and 1100hrs.

The announcement was made via a Facebook post by Identity Malta and explained that these were temporary measures. It did not reveal for how long the new hours will remain.

Times of Malta reported last week that a large increase in the number of passport applications left people having to wait for more than a month for an appointment or face long queues, which last for hours, at the Marsa post office.

A spokesperson for the home affairs ministry said that the number of applications processed last month was almost double that of June 2019, the summer before COVID-19.
