These posts showcased his creativity not only with a paintbrush but also with words, highlighting his ability to provoke thought and entertain others, whether through his witty comments or his idyllic paintings.

Average Annual Salary In Malta for 2022: €20,989

The average annual basic salary for Maltese employees in 2022 was €20,989, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO) in its 2024 Regional Statistics report. Males earned an average of €22,096, while females earned €19,605. This represents an increase from the 2021 average salary of €19,823.

The NSO identified 85,797 individuals at risk of poverty, equating to 16.8% of Malta’s population and 15.1% for Gozo and Comino. Malta’s total population reached 542,051 in 2022, with a significant proportion aged between 30 and 39 years. Beyond figures, these are not only Maltese people who are at this risk, but also entire families who are going through this experience of poverty.

From 2017 to 2022, Malta saw a population increase of 61,596, and Gozo and Comino grew by 5,618 residents. The foreign population was 137,376, with the majority aged between 30 and 39 years. Malta experienced positive natural population changes in 2021 and 2022, while Gozo and Comino had a negative change.

In 2022, 2,546 marriages were registered. Two-person households were most common in Malta, while one-person households were prevalent in Gozo and Comino. The highest average household disposable income was in the South Eastern district (€42,855), and the lowest in the Northern Harbour district (€29,852).

Full-time employment increased by 8.6% in Malta and 5.7% in Gozo and Comino from 2021. The private sector employed 81.6% of Malta’s residents and 66% of Gozo and Comino’s residents.

Chris Fearne, Edward Scicluna And Others To Face Trial

Former Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne, along with Governor of the Central Bank Edward Scicluna and 12 others, are set to face trial in the Vitals case following a decision by Magistrate Leonard Caruana.

This decision was made earlier this morning during a packed court hearing in hall 20, not hall 22, the largest court hall in Malta.

Just ten minutes after the defendants entered the courtroom, the Magistrate ruled that there are sufficient grounds for all of them to face trial on indictment. This ruling led to a shocking silence within the courtroom.

The Magistrate also confirmed that the next hearing will take place in August and urged all prosecutors to maintain the same pace and momentum in the upcoming proceedings.

This decision is significant for Fearne’s career, as it has ultimately ended any hope he had of being nominated as Malta’s next European Commissioner.

Prior to the hearing, Leader of Opposition Bernard Grech posted to his Facebook stating that the country needs clean leadership and has called for the removal of Edward Scicluna as Governor of the Central Bank and Ronald Mizz the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Economy. He also argued that the longer Robert Abela keeps the two in their position the more clear it becomes that Abela was complicit in the alleged illegal behavior.

In a Facebook post, Chris Fearne has announced that he won’t be seeking a second term as Labour deputy leader, after Magistrate Leonard Caruana’s decision. He did however assert his innocence and claim that he is sure that the court will ultimately prove his innocence. Fearne also stated that the court and state must be allowed to work “without added pressure,”.

Tributes Pour In for Beloved Local Artist Mark Mallia

On Tuesday, beloved local artist Mark Mallia passed away at the age of 59 due to illness.

Tributes poured in as news of Mallia’s passing spread across social media, including heartfelt posts from Prime Minister Robert Abela, PN Leader Bernard Grech, ALS Activist Bjorn Formosa and others including Julie Zahra, Owen Bonnici, Alex Borg, Ramona Depares and Elle Bonello.

Known for his candid approach to life, uncensored Facebook posts and art pieces that pushed the envelope, Mallia was celebrated for his thought-provoking and boundary-pushing art pieces that significantly contributed to Malta’s local art scene.

Friends and followers of the artist remembered him as a vibrant personality who lived life to the fullest.

Beyond his artistic achievements, Mallia was also dedicated to philanthropy, frequently raising funds for ALS Malta.
