During a visit to the Għaqda tal-Mużika San Gejtanu AD 1906 headquarters, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia highlighted the department’s ongoing commitment to assisting voluntary organisations. The maintenance and regeneration works carried out at the Society’s premises exemplify the department’s long-standing collaboration with community groups and volunteers to serve the common good.

“This government’s investment is not simply a form of assistance to a parish or a band club,” Farrugia stated, “it is an investment in Maltese culture itself.” He added that these projects place the Public Works Department at the very heart of Malta’s feasts, aiming to ensure a sustainable future for the country’s cultural and historical heritage.

Nigel Vella, President of the Għaqda tal-Mużika San Gejtanu AD 1906, emphasised the importance of the department’s support, noting that without it, voluntary organisations like theirs would struggle to undertake such essential works. Lino Bartolo, Assistant Secretary General of the Għaqda Każini tal-Banda, added that the backing provided to band clubs ensures Malta’s feasts and heritage continue to flourish.

Projects have taken place across numerous localities, including Ħad-Dingli, Żurrieq, Mosta, Paola, Rabat, Ħamrun, Valletta, and Mqabba. They have ranged from infrastructure upgrades and maintenance of band club buildings to the restoration of churches and surrounding areas, all contributing to the preservation and enhancement of Malta’s cultural and religious landscape.
