Shrek added to US film registry for its ‘cultural significance’

Dec 15 2020 Share

Love it or hate it, Shrek is an all-time classic and America’s National Film Registry have cemented its greatness by adding to its list in the Library of Congress.

The registry recognises the most ‘cultural, historically or aesthetically’ significant films throughout history with films like Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption and more. Shrek was one of the 25 entries for 2020 and entered alongside films like Grease, The Hurt Locker and The Dark Knight.

This year’s entries look to celebrate the astounding work of women and people of colour in the cinema industry, as stated by the Library’s current librarian, Carla Hayden.
