Pro-Choice Demonstration Occurred Outside Of Mater Dei Hospital

A group of pro-choice activists gathered outside of Mater Dei this morning holding a banner that said “Ġejt għall-għajnuna u spiċċajt il-Qorti” (“I came for care and ended up in Court”).

On their social media, Voice for Choice shared a photo of this demonstration, stating that its message “lies at the heart of this year’s Abortion Rights March Rally, taking place on Saturday, 27th September at 10:00 am in front of the Law Courts.”

The protest follows recent events in which a woman faced legal proceedings after seeking medical care following the ingestion of abortion pills.

Voice for Choice argues that the current legal framework contributes to fear, stigma, and potential health risks for those experiencing pregnancy complications, noting that the symptoms of miscarriage and abortion can be identical.

The group has also raised concerns about reported cases of patients being questioned in hospitals on suspicion of having undergone an abortion.
