As part of the ongoing series of meetings with Children’s Local Councils, Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the council of Marsaskala (Wied il-Għajn), where young council members had the opportunity to engage with him on pressing contemporary issues, including the environment and animal welfare.

Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction that, just one year after the launch of the RIGHTS project, Malta now boasts a Children’s Local Council in every locality, as well as at the regional level. He emphasised that the ideas and aspirations of the younger generations are not only a reflection of a positive change for the future but also hold the potential to be translated into concrete actions that can improve Malta today.

Dr Abela reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue amplifying the voices of children and young people, thus further strengthening a modern democracy that offers opportunities for skills development and the realisation of their aspirations.

Also participating in the meeting was former President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who stated, “It is deeply gratifying that the Prime Minister continues to meet with children and youth who are members of these Local Councils, to hear directly from them about their hopes and concerns. This initiative is extremely meaningful, as it ensures that the country’s political development is also shaped by the voice of our younger society. It is a clear demonstration of strong political will that truly believes in participatory democracy and the building of a more inclusive and just nation.”
