President’s Husband Anthony Given Final Farewell

Yesterday, a final farewell was given to Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono during a funeral held at the Collegiate Basilica of St Paul’s Shipwreck in Valletta.

Dr Spiteri Debono, the husband of the President of Malta, Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, passed away on 24 July 2025 at the age of 78.

Her Excellency the President expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the authorities of Malta, including Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna who led the celebrants during the ceremony.

Thanks were also extended to Prime Minister Robert Abela, members of Cabinet, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, Members of Parliament, public officials, and all others who paid their respects by attending the funeral of Dr Anthony Spiteri Debono.

The President also conveyed her sincere appreciation to all those who, over the past days, have expressed their condolences and sympathy for this loss.

In particular, she thanked the general public for showing solidarity while also respecting the family’s wish for privacy during this difficult time.
