President Biden Congratulates Newly Re-Elected Roberta Metsola

President of the United States Joe Biden has congratulated Maltese MEP Roberta Metsola for her re-election as president of the European Parliament a couple of days ago.

Metsola shattered various records becoming the first ever woman to win a second consecutive term as president of the European Parliament and winning the election in the largest manner possibly obtaining an insanely impressive 90.2% of votes possible.

The President who will be preparing for his own election soon, also congratulated Ursula von der Leyen for her successful re-election as president of the European Commission and Antonio Costa for being elected president of the European Council.

Biden stated that he is looking forward to working closely to Metsola and all the other leaders of the other European institutions, hinting at the usual close ties between the EU and the USA.

New 40-Patient Ward Inaugurated at Mater Dei

Mater Dei Hospital has inaugurated a new ward, capable of accommodating an additional 40 patients, the health ministry announced on Thursday.

Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela revealed that the project to transform the space into ward M10 required an investment of €1.4 million. An additional €140,000 was allocated for medical equipment to service the new ward. The space, previously non-clinical, underwent extensive modifications to meet healthcare standards.

The renovation involved constructing new walls, treatment rooms, and patient facilities, including toilets and showers. Significant upgrades were also made to the electricals and mechanical systems, including ventilation, air conditioning, water, and electricity. Essential medical infrastructure, such as nurse call systems, pneumatic tubes, and medical gas installations, were also implemented.

Health Minister Abela emphasized that the rear section of ward M10 is designated as a medical high-dependency unit, equipped to provide intensive care for patients with severe illnesses. This development aligns with the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the country.

This investment, initiated at the end of last year, has successfully transformed the non-clinical area into a fully functional medical ward. The new ward is now ready to serve new patients with comprehensive medical facilities.

Zurrieq Band Show Stuns Maltese Festa Enthusiasts

The Zurrieq band show organised by the Banda Queen Victoria A.D. 1865 and Mount Carmel Fireworks Factory for the feast of Our lady of Mount Carmel has stunned not only the audience but hundreds of Maltese festa enthusiasts on social media.

The video of the show posted by Għaqda Karmelitana Banda Queen Victoria, Żurrieq, has garnered a whopping 15 thousand views and almost 400 positive reacts.

The show featured a beautiful back and forth between the symphony of the band and the elegancy of the beautiful fireworks.

The feast was held on the 16th of July and is one of two feasts that are held in Zurrieq every year.

Ursula von der Leyen Re-Elected As European Commission President

The EU Parliament has decided to democratically hand Ursula von der Leyen a second term as the president of the European Commission, which sort of acts as the executive body of the European Union.

Von der Leyen won the election with the overall support of 401 MEPS, 41 more votes than the Belgian needed.

There were 284 MEPS who decided to vote against her having a second term whilst another 21 decided to abstain from voting by either leavig their ballot paper blank or by voiding it.

In her re-election speech, Ursula von der Leyen promised to strengthen Europe’s military presence in order to better defend itself amongst other pledges.
