With almost just two weeks left for EuroPride Valletta 2023, the preparations for the cultural programmes, conferences and pride march are well underway.

Thousands have already booked their attendance for many of the activities, among them the concert by Christina Augilera, which will take place at Fosos Floriana on the 16th of September.

Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality Rebecca Buttigieg visited an international exhibition being held at Spazju Kreattiv on the occasion of EuroPride.

The exhibition, with the theme of ‘Wind blows waves… in all directions’, brings together the work of 25 artists and activists from Malta and ten other Mediterranean countries around the challenges faced by the LGBTIQ+ community.

Parliamentary Secretary Buttigieg exclaimed that this exhibition is an artistic mirror for the community’s aspirations throughout time to achieve equality and respect.

She added how Malta should be a model for other European countries where the rights of the community are not yet achieved. ‘Malta will show how hard it worked to fight for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community during the 29th edition of EuroPride’, said Buttigieg.

You Can Now Take A University Course On Taylor Swift

You Can Now Take A University Course On Taylor Swift
Aug 23 2023 Share

Belgium’s Ghent University is launching a course titled “Literature (Taylor’s Version)” that employs Taylor Swift’s song lyrics to explore prominent English literary works and their thematic underpinnings.

This innovative approach is the brainchild of Elly McCausland, an assistant professor at the university. McCausland perceives Swift’s songs as rich with literary references, offering a chance to examine feminism, the anti-hero archetype, and metaphorical storytelling.

The course aims to make literature more approachable by demonstrating its ongoing evolution rather than fostering a mere fan club. It employs Swift’s lyrics as a conduit to classic literary works by renowned authors like Shakespeare, Bronte, Chaucer, and Thackeray.

Swift also references other authors like Dickens and Dickinson, drawing parallels with British Romantic poets. The course’s popularity has extended beyond the university’s boundaries, with requests to join coming in from external sources.

Despite some skepticism online, McCausland likens the critique to the initial doubts faced by Bob Dylan after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016. This endeavor aims to reinvigorate literature’s accessibility and relevance using contemporary musical artistry.
