The Malta Police Force has launched an investigation into the sale and distribution of fake COVID-19 tests to people wanting to go back to their country.

It was revealed that various falsification methods were being utilised, amongst them cases of forging old certificates, with criminal circles selling them.

Over the past few months, the Police took multiple people to court on the matter, amongst them 26-year-old Euredice Annelatt Olijfveld who plead guilty for trying to leave Malta via a false COVID-19 certificate.

The person in question was fined €500.

Despite medical reports from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stating that the vaccine raises no safety concerns for pregnant women, Health Minister Chris Fearne has said that Malta will not be changing its position on the issue.

Albeit being received with mixed reactions, Fearne went on to state that the country will continue to follow advice from the European Medicines Agency.

The Health Authorities previously advised women to postpone pregnancies by two months after being inoculated, going on to withdraw the advice after reviews from the World Health Organisation.

On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne reported that over 300,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given, after hitting a daily record on Wednesday with 6,790 jabs in just one day.

The country has been administering Pfizer, Moderna and Astra Zeneca vaccine, with the single-dose Johnson and Johnson arriving last Friday while registrations officially open for individual aged 40 and over.

The European Medicines Authority has reviewed the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and while recognising blood clots as a “very rare” side effect, it has been noted that the benefits far outweigh the risks.
