PN Proposes Mandatory Drug And Alcohol Tests After Every Traffic Accident

The Nationalist Party (PN) has called for urgent action to address the rising number of road accidents and fatalities in Malta, criticising the Government for failing to meet its National Transport Strategy targets.

Highlighting public concern over road safety, the PN stressed the need for stronger enforcement and greater investment in the Police Force, the Traffic Section, and other authorities responsible for road regulation. Several non-governmental organisations have also raised awareness about the persistent risks on Maltese roads.

The PN outlined several key proposals, which it plans to submit as a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament: zero tolerance for driving under the influence, harsher penalties, investment in testing equipment, and more personnel and resources.

The party also acknowledged the dedication of officers who continue to maintain road safety under difficult conditions.
