PN Pledges Stronger Support For Artists And Cultural Sector

PN has reaffirmed its commitment to Malta’s artistic and cultural sectors during a conference held at M Space, Msida.

Addressing a gathering of creatives, PN Leader Bernard Grech emphasised the importance of safeguarding art, culture, and heritage, describing them as essential to national identity and wellbeing.
Grech outlined key proposals, including a constitutional guarantee for the protection of art, a reduced 5% tax rate on the first €80,000 earned by registered artists, stronger arts education, and incentives to support freelancers, private initiatives, and community-based cultural programmes.

Shadow Minister for Arts, Culture and National Heritage Julie Zahra, herself an artist, highlighted the chronic underinvestment in the sector and called for greater recognition and support for Malta’s cultural and creative industries.

The event opened with Qalb das-Swali, a reflective literary reading by Vince Fabri. Throughout the evening, sculptor Antoine Farrugia and artist Mark Schembri produced live works, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of Malta’s artistic scene.
