PN MPs Call Out Italian Police Joint Patrols Move

After it was announced that eight Italian police officers would be joining the local force in joint patrols for a period in summer, Nationalist MPs released statements criticising the move.

Among them was PN leader candidate Alex Borg, who said that the Maltese were promised quality tourists but instead got visitors who created chaos to the extent that the local force needed to bring in outside help.

‘No planning, no control. Rubbish and filth everywhere, noise, fighting, and disruption to residents’, said Borg.

‘Solidarity with the residents and Local Councils of St Julian’s, Swieqi, Sliema, St Paul’s Bay, Gżira, Valletta, Mellieħa, Xlendi, and Marsalforn. Those most affected by a summer population that doubles in size.’

Meanwhile, PN MP Darren Carabott said that we have truly reached rock bottom.

‘Look at how the government reasons; Problem: lost control of the security in tourist zones? Solution: bring Italian police.’

Carabott said that the PN believes that Malta is a sovereign country where only the Maltese police can enforce Maltese law.

‘This Government has given up and abandoned our Police officers. We believe the solution lies in investing in our Police Force and increasing its numbers. It has become clear that the Government has no idea how to solve the problem caused by the type of tourist it has attracted. We have been saying for years that we need to bring in quality tourism.’
