Planning Authority And Kamra Tal-Periti Join Forces To Champion Architecture Snd Sustainable Development

The Planning Authority (PA) has announced a new partnership with Kamra tal-Periti (KTP) to promote architectural excellence and sustainable development in Malta. The collaboration, unveiled at the Malta National Architecture Awards Premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia sees the PA become a National Partner of the awards and work with KTP on developing a National Architecture Policy.
The partnership, highlighted by the PA becoming a National Partner of the Malta National Architecture Awards Premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia and a joint initiative to develop a National Architecture Policy, was showcased by Johann Buttigieg, Executive Chairman of the PA, at the awards ceremony organised by KTP this evening.
Speaking at the event, Buttigieg praised KTP’s leadership in promoting architectural advancement and sustainability. He emphasised the PA’s belief in the profession and its integral alignment with the authority’s core values.
The National Partnership forms a cornerstone of this alliance, which, in Buttigieg’s words, “consolidates all that has been achieved so far through the Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning Awards, while elevating the status of the Galizia Awards, making them the sole awards of their kind in the Islands.”
Central to the collaboration is the development of a National Architecture Policy a forward-looking framework designed to guide future development and ensure adherence to the highest standards of sustainable and contextually appropriate design across Malta.
The comprehensive policy will include a detailed review of architectural practices and education in Malta, a comparative analysis of assessment processes against international benchmarks, and an examination of public procurement of architectural services.
Moreover, it will integrate relevant European policies, including the New European Bauhaus initiative, and establish an architectural framework aligned with globally recognised principles. The process will be rooted in evidence-based research, with contributions from both public and private sectors, aiming to identify the resources required for successful implementation.
Buttigieg also expressed his enthusiasm for further collaboration with KTP, including on matters relating to the National Building Council, highlighting the importance of a cohesive approach to all aspects of the built environment.
