The Civil Protection Department has published a collection of photographs which were taken during the force’s delicate 16-hour operation after a building collapsed in Paola’s Corradino Industrial Estate.
“50 rescuers, 13 senior officers, 12 fire appliances, 16 hours of work”, a statement published on Civil Protection Malta’s social media page read.
During the operation, CPD officials were attempting to rescue the men who got caught under the building’s ruins following its collapse. 20-year-old Jean Paul Sofia, was sadly found dead at 1.30am on Sunday while another three man had to be admitted to intensive care.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri praised the workers involved in such a delicate operation, also offering his condolences to Sofia’s family in such a difficult moment.
