PN Proposes Increased Security Cameras And 24/7 Police Stations For Safer Communities

Apr 2 2025 Share

The Nationalist Party has proposed stronger security measures to combat the rising wave of burglaries in various localities, including Swieqi, Madliena, Mosta, San Ġwann, Naxxar, and Mellieħa.

At a press conference held in Swieqi, key party spokespeople, including Shadow Ministers Darren Carabott (Home Affairs and Security), Albert Buttigieg (Family), Paula Mifsud Bonnici (Elderly), and Swieqi Mayor Noel Muscat, called for more security cameras and the establishment of 24/7 police stations to ensure residents feel safe in their homes.

The party also highlighted a 2024 Europol report revealing that criminal networks from Croatia, Georgia, Italy, and Romania are active in Malta, particularly in property-related organised crime. While acknowledging the efforts of police officers working with limited resources, the Nationalist Party urged the government to invest more in both police personnel and resources to improve safety across the country.

The Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, praised the Gozo University Group (GUG) for organising an insightful discussion yesterday, during which the call for tenders for the purchase of the fourth vessel for Gozo Channel was announced.

The event took place at the University of Malta’s Quad, where four key speakers engaged in a discussion focused on improving connectivity between Malta and Gozo. The speakers included Clint Camilleri, the Minister for Gozo; Alex Borg, the Shadow Minister for Gozo; Arnold Cassola, the Leader of the Momentum Party; and Antoine Zammit, a Senior Lecturer in Urban Design.

During the discussion, Shadow Minister Alex Borg emphasised the importance of environmental protection and highlighted the need for a new vessel, potentially funded by the European Union.

Professor Arnold Cassola, Leader of the Momentum Party, reminded attendees of the need for improved ports and infrastructure to support the growing demand for connectivity.

Minister Camilleri acknowledged that the MV Nikolaos was only intended as a temporary solution for the Gozo Channel service.
