The Popular Party has stated that in the coming legislature, and years to follow if need be, will be committing to working on the rebuilding of a new Teatru Rjal on the original plans drafted by architect Edward Middleton Barry.

This was announced during a press conference addressed by party leader Paul Salomone. Salomone stated that as funds are allocated to other projects, similar funds must be dedicated to such a project. He stated that the theatre was never rebuilt because there never was a political push.

Airlines and airports have been calling for an end to COVID-19 measures in domestic flights in the European Union as countries around the world continue to relax travel-related measures such as presentation of vaccine certificate and mask-wearing.

A joint statement fro ACI Europe and IATA states that COVID-19 and the Omicron variant are pervasive across all of Europe and immunity is at a level that hospitalisation or risk of death has dropped dramatically, especially in cases of vaccinated individuals. Airports Council International (ACI) Europe represents around 500 regional airports while airline trade association IATA has highlighted how numerous countries are dropping COVID-19 requirements.

“As European countries open up and remove restrictions, it is only logical to remove similar restrictions from air transport.”

IATA Regional Vice President for Europe stated that such movement will allow people to travel freely and support jobs related to European air transport and travel sectors.

Gynaecologist addresses Grech’s call for permanent IVF specialist: “We’ve had them for three years”

Gynaecologist addresses Grech's call for permanent IVF specialist: "We've had them for three years"
Mar 11 2022 Share

During a political event in Isla on Wednesday, local gynaecologist Mark Sant criticised PN leader Bernard Grech’s pledge to establish a ‘permanent IVF specialist’ in Malta due to the country having no experts in this regard.

On a ONE TV broadcast of programme Awla, Sant stated that Malta has had three IVF experts for the past three years. In his pledge, Grech referred to ‘Batch IVF’, a process by which the menstrual cycles of multiple women are programme in order to conduct the same process at around the same time. Such a process was being conducted due to the lack of IVF specialists, with experts coming to Malta to oversee such process.

The gynaecologist went on to argue that Malta has had three embryologists in Malta for three years and the ‘batch’ process is not carried out anymore… “Maybe that’s why I didn’t speak to him about the issue”, Sant said. As he carried on with his discourse, Sant welcomed Labour’s proposal for the introduction of Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) testing in Malta, which allows specialists to analyse the embryo formed outside the uterus for genetic issues which would prevent it from implanting.
