Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath brought their legendary career to a close with a powerful farewell gig in Birmingham, performing in front of 40,000 devoted fans at Villa Park.

The event, called Back to the Beginning, featured an all-star line-up and was described by many as the “heavy metal Live Aid”.

Ozzy, now 76 and living with Parkinson’s disease, performed seated on a black throne but still brought his trademark energy. Clad in a leather coat and gold armband, he rose from below the stage to huge cheers, waving and shouting, “Let the madness begin!”

The crowd chanted his name as he sang five solo songs, followed by a rare reunion with the original Black Sabbath line-up.

Guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward joined him for four Sabbath classics, ending with a thunderous version of Paranoid.

Health issues kept Ozzy seated, and while his voice showed signs of strain, it still carried real power.

The stadium pitch was packed with fans from around the globe, many in Black Sabbath shirts, moshing and waving rock hand signs.

The star-filled line-up included Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Steven Tyler, and Ronnie Wood. Proceeds from the historic event will go to charity, closing a monumental chapter in rock history.
