Maltese athletes will receive a bonus of €10,000 for every gold medal

Feb 1 2023 Share

Maltese athletes will receive a bonus of €10,000 for every gold medal they win at the upcoming Small Nations Games. The move has been praised by some as a great incentive for the athletes, while others have criticised it as a waste of money.

The Small Nations Games are a biennial event that bring together athletes from small countries around the world to compete in a variety of sports. The government’s decision to offer the bonus is seen by many as an effort to encourage its athletes to perform at their best.

The bonus has been warmly received by many of Malta’s athletes, who view it as a way to reward their hard work and dedication to their sport. They believe that the extra financial support will help them to focus on their training and performance, and will provide a much-needed boost to their morale.

However, not everyone is in favour of the bonus. Some have criticised it as a waste of money, and have argued that the funds could be better spent on other important priorities, such as education and health care. Others have pointed out that the bonus may create a culture of entitlement, and that athletes may come to expect similar rewards in the future, regardless of their performance.

Despite the controversy, the Maltese government is standing by its decision to offer the bonus. It believes that supporting its athletes is an important investment in the nation’s future, and that the bonus will help to bring recognition to Malta on the international stage.

The games, will be played in Malta and will start on May 29th.

Mixed reactions on Marisa Abela playing the role of Amy Winehouse

Feb 1 2023 Share

“Back To Black”, the highly anticipated biopic about the late singer Amy Winehouse, has recently wrapped up filming. Marisa Abela, a relatively unknown actress, has been cast in the lead role, and reactions to this decision have been mixed.

The film tells the story of Winehouse’s rise to fame, her struggles with addiction, and her untimely death. Winehouse was known for her soulful voice and unique style, and many fans have been eagerly awaiting the film to see how her story will be depicted on the big screen.

Marisa Abela, who previously appeared in a few TV dramas and short films, has taken on the challenge of playing one of the most iconic singers of the 21st century. While some fans and critics have praised Abela’s stunning resemblance to Winehouse and her ability to capture the singer’s essence, others have been less impressed.

Some have argued that Abela doesn’t have the star power to carry the film, and that a more established actress should have been cast in the role. Others have pointed out that Abela doesn’t quite have Winehouse’s distinctive accent and mannerisms down, which detracts from the authenticity of the film.

Despite these criticisms, there is no denying that Abela has put in a lot of work to prepare for the role. She has reportedly spent hours studying Winehouse’s music and style, and has even been taking vocal lessons to improve her singing abilities.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether “Back To Black” will be a hit with audiences and critics. While Marisa Abela’s performance may not be perfect, it is important to remember that the film is a tribute to Amy Winehouse’s life and music, and that it will likely be an emotional experience for fans of the singer.

Marisa Abela, a performer with Maltese-Libyan descent, has just shared the first look at her portrayal of Amy Winehouse in the new ‘Back to Black’ biopic. Abela is an English actress who has had television roles in the BBC Two and HBO series Industry as well as the Sky One series COBRA. She was born in Brighton to Caroline Gruber and director Angelo Abela. Her father is of Maltese-Libyan and English descent, whilst her mother is of Polish Jewish and Russian Jewish ancestry.

Mitch Winehouse had been adamant about casting a relatively unknown actress to play is daughter. “What we want is somebody to portray Amy in the way that she was…the funny, brilliant, charming and horrible person that she was” he said.

In conclusion, “Back To Black” has generated a lot of buzz, and Marisa Abela’s performance as Amy Winehouse has received mixed reviews. Whether the film will be a success remains to be seen, but it is sure to be a fitting tribute to one of the greatest singers of our time.
