Over €16 Million In EU Funds For Approved Social Projects Under ESF+

Fourteen new initiatives have been approved in Malta under the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Programme 2021–2027, receiving a combined €16 million in EU funding. These projects are designed to meet the country’s growing social needs, with particular focus on healthcare, social inclusion, lifelong learning, and community development.

Seven of the initiatives, valued at €11.6 million, will be led by the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing. These will target improvements in public health services, the training of healthcare professionals, and enhancing working conditions in the medical sector.
Other organisations such as Inspire Malta, the Jesuit Refugee Service, and the Church Schools Children’s Fund will implement projects offering direct support to children, youth, and persons with disabilities. Additional efforts will promote lifelong learning and the integration of third-country nationals, with contributions from the Ministry for Culture and Local Government and the Ministry for Tourism.

During the launch, Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi presented funding letters to the chosen project leaders, marking the official start of implementation. He described the projects as tangible efforts to improve lives and support vulnerable communities. Malta’s ESF+ portfolio now includes 25 projects with a total investment of €159 million, supported by a 60 percent EU co-financing rate.
