Over 9,000 Students Receive Results As MATSEC Publish Results

The MATSEC Examinations Board has released the 2025 session results, with approximately 3,760 Matriculation and 5,250 SEC candidates receiving their outcomes.
This year introduced new SEC subjects, including Chinese, Dance, Theatre, and Maltese as a Foreign Language, aligning with a broader and more inclusive curriculum.
All SEC subjects were assessed using a revised model that combines School-Based Assessments (SBA) and final exams.
The SBA, contributing 30% to the final grade, evaluated students over the last two years through various tasks such as projects, presentations and class tests. This approach provides a more comprehensive view of student progress.
Candidates could choose to sit exams at two levels: the existing Level 2 to 3, and the new Level 1 to 2, which certifies basic knowledge. Results are now reported in performance bands, with Level 3 as the highest.
While Level 3 remains the benchmark for entry into post-secondary education, Levels 1 and 2 also support progression into other institutions. The system allows students to achieve an overall Level 3 if strong SBA performance offsets a weaker exam result.
The results indicate improved student outcomes, with an increase in Level 3 qualifications in subjects such as Maltese, Ethics, Geography, French, German and Italian. Performance in core subjects like Mathematics and English remained stable.
Minister Clifton Grima congratulated successful students and urged others to remain motivated. He highlighted revision classes as a continued opportunity for improvement, in line with the national strategy that prioritises student support and development.
