Over 70 Organisations Join Call For ‘Justice For Our Land’ Ahead Of Protest

More than 70 organisations from across Malta and Gozo have joined the call for Ġustizzja għal Artna: Kill the Bills!, urging the Government to withdraw Bills 143 and 144, along with three associated legal notices, citing serious threats to the country’s future.
The coalition includes residents’ associations, student groups — covering medicine, architecture, law, and engineering and organisations advocating for social justice, environmental protection, and heritage preservation. Over 160 university lecturers and academics have also voiced their support, warning that the proposed “planning reforms” could have dangerous long-term consequences.
Residents’ associations expressed concerns that the new laws would severely restrict their right to appeal against illegal developments, while increasing the powers of the Planning Authority and limiting the courts’ ability to revoke irregular permits. Many fear that the reforms could further erode the quality of life on the islands.
The youth group Front Żgħażagħ għall-Ambjent, alongside student associations including KSU, medical, law, architecture, psychology, and Gozo student representatives, are calling for public participation in the protest. They warn that the reforms threaten their future in Malta and Gozo, putting physical and mental wellbeing at risk.
The national protest is scheduled for Saturday, 4th October at 10am in Valletta, beginning at the Law Courts and proceeding to Castille. Organisers are urging citizens to attend in full force to make their voices heard.
