Over 4,000 Road Accidents Reported In 2025 Q2

During the second quarter of 2025, road traffic accidents and casualties in Malta decreased compared to the same period in 2024.
A total of 4,026 accidents were reported, representing a 9.2% drop year-on-year. The Northern Harbour district registered the most accidents with 1,366 cases, accounting for 33.9% of the total.
Casualties from road traffic accidents also declined, falling by 16.1% to 343. Of these, 108 people were grievously injured, including 73 drivers, 13 passengers and 22 pedestrians, cyclists or others.
Five fatalities were recorded: three drivers, a pedestrian and a cyclist. This marked an increase of two fatalities over the same quarter in 2024.

Males made up 69.4% of those grievously injured, and four of the five deaths involved male victims. People aged 26 to 40 made up 39.4% of casualties.
Passenger cars were involved in 45.8% of all casualties, followed by motorcycles at 42.9% and goods-carrying vehicles at 4.1%.
Accidents between vehicles accounted for 63.6% of all traffic-related injuries.
The highest number of accidents occurred on Tuesdays (645 cases), while Thursdays saw the most casualties (58).
Most accidents took place between 09:00 and 11:59 (884 cases). San Pawl Il-Baħar had the highest number of accidents (240).
All districts reported fewer accidents, with the South Eastern district showing the largest decrease at 15.7%.
