MTV has returned back to Malta’s historic Il-Fosos Square last night for the annual Isle of MTV Festival. This festival which is awaited by many, featured thrilling performances from international stars such as Nelly Furtado, RAYE, and DJ Snake, which co-headlined to an audience of over 35,000 enthusiastic fans. Local musicians such as Klinsmann and Sarah Bonnici also made notable performances.
Grammy and Latin Grammy Award winning icon Nelly Furtado surprised the audience by performing her new single, “Corazón” with Liliana Saumet, from her upcoming album. Backed by a full band and dancers, Furtado’s set included some of her iconic songs such as “Maneater” and “Promiscuous”, which had the crowd cheering for more.
Multi-BRIT-Award winning Raye left the audience in awe with her smooth vocals on a stripped-back stage, performing “Genesis” and her hit “Worth It.” Accompanied by a brass band bringing jazz to Isle of MTV, as she had everyone dancing to her hits “Prada” and “Escapism.”DJ Snake’s high energy set featured popular dance anthems “TEKA”, “Let Me Love You”, and “Lean On” ending with a grand finale of fireworks that left everyone with an adrenaline rush to keep dancing all night long.
Local stars also shone brightly. Klinsmann debuted his unreleased track “Unknown,” and Sarah Bonnici wowed delivered an energy packed performance , including a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Throughout the festival local DJS ; DOTX, WYNE, Denzil Jo Armani, GABII, D-Rey & MC DAVE, Bay Radio DJs Kurt, Jamie, and Taryn, Koroma, and MC JD Patrick, and DEBRII kept the crowd energized the whole night with their sets.
As Isle of MTV Malta is in its 16th year since debuting in Malta, we remember all of the times this festival has drawn tens of thousands of fans for performances by top stars such as Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, and David Guetta. The event will be internationally broadcasted on MTV on Saturday 14th September in more than 150 countries. Additionally, it will also be available on demand on Paramount + at a later date.
Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo took to Facebook earlier today to share the impressive attendance numbers, including the fact that the concert will be streamed to millions of families around the world in the coming weeks.
