Total cruise passenger traffic in Malta during the second quarter of 2025 reached 256,326, representing a decrease of 6.4% when compared to the same period in 2024.

The number of cruise liner calls stood at 123, which is five fewer than the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Transit passengers made up the vast majority, totalling 210,567 or 82.1% of overall traffic. Each vessel that docked in Malta carried an average of 2,084 passengers, 56 fewer than the previous year.

Passengers from EU Member States accounted for 39.3% of the total, with the largest numbers coming from Italy (11.5%) and Germany (7.7%).

Non-EU passengers totalled 155,476, of whom 37.0% were from the United Kingdom and 33.1% from the United States.

Female passengers made up 54.7% of the total, with the highest share aged 60 to 79 (41.4%), followed by those aged 40 to 59 (28.3%).

For the first half of 2025, total cruise passenger numbers stood at 340,923. Of these, 43.6% originated from EU countries. Women represented 53.1% of passengers, amounting to 180,904.

The 60 to 79 age group was the most represented at 38.2%, followed by those aged 40 to 59 at 28.9%.

There were 154 cruise liner calls in the first half of the year, with an average of 2,214 passengers per vessel, compared to 147 calls and an average of 2,384 passengers in the same period of 2024.
