One Of The US’ Biggest Airlines May Soon Start Flying To Malta And It Could Change The Travel Game

Delta Air Lines is inviting its customers and employees to help shape its network growth in a way no airline has done before. Described as Delta’s first-ever “Route Race”, SkyMiles members and Delta employees will get to vote for one of three brand-new European destinations. Whichever one wins will join the map for Delta’s Summer 2026 schedule.

Delta is putting up three Mediterranean island destinations that no US carrier has ever flown to before. The choices are: Ibiza, Malta, or Sardinia. Each has strong tourism-based economies and plenty of compelling reasons for US travellers to go and visit.

Over the next week, SkyMiles members and Delta employees will be voting for one in the Fly Delta app, with the winning destination to be announced within 30 days.

For Malta, the stakes are especially exciting. A direct U.S. flight would put the island nation on the map for American travellers in a way it hasn’t been before
