The sports apparel giant Nike confirmed it cut ties with football star Neymar last year after the Brazilian player refused to ‘cooperate’ with an investigation into sexual assault allegations. The assault allegations were made by one of the company’s employees back in 2018, with the incident allegedly having occurred in 2016. Nike stated it commissioned an independent probe whilst retaining independent legal counsel for the employee.

The company told CNN Business that the employee’s allegations were treated great seriousness. Despite resulting in an inconclusive investigation, Nike stated that it ended its relationship with the player due to the latter refusing to cooperate in good faith. Neymar refused the allegations and added that the relationship ends for ‘commercial reasons.’

Plans for the second-tallest skyscraper in the world were released by a Scottish architecture firm as they plan to build the building in St. Petersburg, Russia. Called the Lakhta Centre II, it will stand at 703 meters, just behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai which stands at 828 meters. This second tallest building however will house the highest occupied floor and viewing gallery at 590 meters.

The Lakhta Centre II will beat the current second tallest building which is the Shanghai Tower which stands at 632 meters. This new building will stand on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, Russia and will be designed by Kettle Collective. Tony Kettle stated that the new centre ‘will be a template of sustainable design for global high-rise projects’ and that ‘it will have the best in class low energy design and a mix of uses that will create a vertical atrium space with a vibrant centre as the heart for this new business district’

The highest daily total since last April was registered in the UK at 4,182 COVID-19 cases. 1st April saw 4,479 cases, making this the first time since then to register more than 4,000. With another 10 deaths within 28 days, this marks the third consecutive day in a row in which the UK registered more than 3000 cases.

The UK has administered 700,000 vaccines, with nearly half of the country’s population having received both jabs. There have also been 4,477,705 cases since the pandemic hit, with the death toll reaching up to 127,768.

There was no increase in people being hospitalised however, with UK Health Security Agency chief executive Dr Jenny Harries saying that this happened due to the vaccination’s intended effect. The UK continues to battle the pandemic by approving the single Johnson & Johnson shot earlier today.
