Labour Party MP Rosianne Cutajar took to social media to emphasise the importance of educating young people about sexual health.

In her post, Cutajar stressed that educational campaigns in schools should include the distribution of free contraceptives to help prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which have seen a steady increase in Malta. She also highlighted the need to update the country’s sexual health policy, which has remained unchanged since 2011, pointing out that she has been raising this issue for years.

Cutajar referenced a MaltaToday article titled ‘Half of sexually active girls having unprotected sex – Health Behaviour Study’, which revealed that 53% of sexually active 15-year-old Maltese girls and 28% of boys do not use condoms during intercourse.

In her post, she reiterated: “Educational campaigns in our schools must also include the distribution of free contraceptives to help prevent, among other things, the rise in sexually transmitted diseases.” Cutajar’s call for action aims to better equip youth with the knowledge and resources needed to promote safe sexual practices.
