The regeneration of Mosta’s town centre and nearby areas is moving ahead steadily, as the Public Works Department continues to step up improvement works in recent weeks. A key part of the project is the creation of a new pedestrian zone forming part of the wider Mosta Square Masterplan.

Ongoing works are focused on Kurat Calleja Street and a section of Torri Street, two key routes leading directly into the heart of Mosta. These streets are being redesigned into more accessible and visually appealing pedestrian areas.

During a recent site visit, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia, joined by Mosta Mayor Joseph Gatt, noted that the Public Works Department has launched several urban enhancement projects in recent months across various towns and alleyways throughout Malta.

Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia stated, “In Żabbar, Kirkop, and now in Mosta, we are carrying out improvements to pedestrian areas and alleyways that connect communities with the central parts of their towns.” He also said that the works in Mosta, supported by nearly half a million euros in funding, would be fully integrated into the Government’s Masterplan for Mosta Square.

Mayor Joseph Gatt thanked the department and emphasised that this new pedestrian space would greatly enhance residents’ quality of life. He added that the area known as “Pjazza Torri”, often visited by pilgrims, would be an important addition to the wider regeneration of the Mosta Square area.
