New Collective Agreement Signed For Festivals Malta Employees

A new collective agreement has been signed between Festivals Malta and the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin (UĦM), which will bring salary increases and the introduction of new allowances for a number of employees.

The signing was overseen by Minister for Culture, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici, together with Festivals Malta Chairman Aaron Zahra and Permanent Secretary Kevin Mahoney.

Minister Bonnici said the agreement aims to improve compensation packages and employee benefits, noting that the goal is not only financial. “This agreement also offers clear guidance on working conditions and sets a positive standard for future employees,” he said. “This government truly invests in its workers. Festivals Malta is working hard to ensure its employees are fairly compensated. Together, we are creating opportunities for career growth.”

Chairman Aaron Zahra highlighted the dedication of Festivals Malta staff, who often work long hours, including weekends and public holidays, to deliver major events such as Mużika Mużika, Notte Bianca, and the Valletta Baroque Festival. Zahra said, “This agreement recognises their hard work and commitment to the arts and culture sector.”

Frans Agius, CEO of Festivals Malta, described the five-year agreement as a major milestone. Aguis said, “This is an important step forward, recognising the skills and dedication of our employees, who work tirelessly to deliver high-quality cultural events throughout the year.”

On behalf of UĦM, Antoinette Aquilina, Executive Manager for Employment Relations, expressed thanks to Festivals Malta management, the Industrial Relations Unit, employee representatives, and all staff for their professionalism during the negotiation process.“This agreement marks a positive move towards recognising the essential role of Festivals Malta employees in delivering high-quality cultural events for Malta.” she said.
