Universal Studios is set to open a major new theme park in Bedfordshire UK by 2031, making it one of Europe’s largest and most high-tech.

The theme park will be a 476-acre site and will feature rides, shops, a hotel and immersive entertainment. It is expected to have 8.5 million visitors in its first year alone.

Three standout attractions have already been teased, the first being a volcano simulation which will feature a towering, erupting volcano. This will serve as the park’s dramatic centrepiece.

The park will also have three roller coasters with loops, lakeside turns and thrilling drops.

A large amphitheatre hints at a nightly Lakeside show with fireworks, music and lights, possibly inspired by Universal’s ‘Cinesational’ in Florida.

While full details are still under wraps, fans can expect rides based on major Universal franchises like Jurassic Park, Minions and even Harry Potter.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, alongside Ministers Clifton Grima and Clint Camilleri, inaugurated two new schools in Rabat, Gozo: Sir Arturo Mercieca Primary School and Agius de Soldanis Middle School.

The €18 million investment forms part of a broader vision for inclusive and modern education on the island.

The primary school features 16 classrooms, 10 kindergarten rooms, and specialised labs for science, IT, and art, covering 8,000 square metres, including 3,000 square metres of recreational space.

It can accommodate around 650 children. The middle school underwent significant upgrades, now offering 30 refurbished classrooms, science labs, multipurpose halls, a gym, and new spaces for art, music, and drama.

During the visit, the Prime Minister toured classrooms, interacted with students, and attended sessions at both schools. He also participated in a student-led discussion featuring Gozitan figures Mark Laurence Zammit, Sarah Bonnici, and Daniel Formosa.

Abela described the campus as a symbol of investment in children’s aspirations and a model of modern, inclusive education. Minister Grima emphasised that the true value lies in creating a nurturing environment that fosters growth.

Minister Camilleri added that this milestone reflects the government’s strong commitment to quality education in Gozo.
