The Secret Nazi Plans That Targeted Malta in WWII

MALTA; It might be small, but during World War II, Malta was one of the most important and dangerous places in the world. And guess what? The Nazis had secret plans to take it over!
In the early 1940s, Malta was like a floating fortress in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The island was used by the British to stop enemy ships and planes, especially those heading to North Africa. This made Hitler and Mussolini furious, because they needed that route to win battles.
So, they came up with a top-secret mission called Operation Herkules. The plan? Invade Malta using a huge army of German and Italian soldiers, parachute troops, and even gliders. They wanted to take control of the island and stop the British for good.
But here’s the twist, it never happened.
Even though the Axis powers (Germany and Italy) bombed Malta more than almost any place in the world, the people never gave up. The Royal Air Force and brave Maltese citizens held strong, even while bombs rained down from the sky.
By the time the Nazis were ready to launch Operation Herkules, it was too late. The British had gotten stronger, and the invasion was cancelled. Malta survived, and it helped turn the tide of the war.
Because of its bravery, Malta was awarded the George Cross by King George VI, an award usually given to just one person, but this time it was for the entire island!
