Napoli edge out Milan in close contest

Napoli edged out AC Milan in what was an important match for their title ambitions. Both teams started the season in incredible fashion, but recently their form has started to dip with Milan drawing against Udinese and losing against Fiorentina and Sassuolo whilst Napoli losing two games on the bounce against Empoli and Atalanta.

Napoli started in the best possible way, as in the fifth minute midfielder Elif Elmas scored a beautiful header from a corner. Both teams had to start with rotated sides because of multiple injuries. AC Milan had many chances to equalize but they couldn’t convert any chances, with star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic not being clinical enough. The first half ended with AC Milan still hoping for an equalizer whilst Napoli wanting to increase their lead.

The second half didn’t start well for Napoli as they looked fatigued and chances were now scarce whilst the rossoneri were playing better but still were not creating clear cut chances. The game got lively again in the 89th minute when Milan player Franck Kessie scored a birthday goal to equalize. However the goal would not stand after a VAR check from the referee concluded that striker Olivier Giroud was considered to be in an active offside position.

Santa Ye: Kanye buys 4,000 toys for needy kids this Christmas

Kanye West took on the role of Santa Claus this festive season by buying around 4,000 toys in Chicago this Christmas.

Kanye isn’t a complete stranger to giving to the community, as he is reported to love visiting neighbourhoods and giving to those in need. This Christmas he was truly the modern day Santa Claus.

Business owners in the Chicago area, along with community leaders and residents, helped out with the toy drive by paying for certain items. Despite having millions, Kanye has expressed planning on being homeless within a year so that he can provide to others less fortunate.

He revealed during an interview with a German culture magazine that he plans on eventually selling all his properties. He critiqued ‘capitalist rule’ and went on to say that it’s time to change it.

Last month he also dropped off 1,000 meals to homeless charity LA Mission, also planning to feed the homeless population by seeking to establish a working relationship with charity organisations across LA.

223 people stranded at sea as Malta denies Sea-Eye 4 access

After Malta closed its doors on NGO Sea-Eye 4, the organisation is looking t Sicily to provide the migrants with safe port.

With pregnant women and children among the 223, the migrants were rescued within Malta’s search-and-rescue area this week. Their health conditions are reportedly deteriorating as time goes on, with Times of Malta being informed by a spokesperson that only Italy has responded their calls.

‘Even though the rescues took place in the Maltese SAR zone, the Maltese Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre did not respond and coordinate the cases’ the spokesperson said.

Times of Malta confirmed on Saturday that the Armed Forces turned down the NGO’s request for assistance, saying that Malta ‘is not in a position to provide […] place of safety.’

Several have been treated for hypothermia, with two pregnant women experiencing stomach pains and one child having a broken arm. Sea-Eye spokesperson Sophie Weidenhiller described the Maltese government failure to coordinate distress cases at sea.

She said that the ‘cold-blooded ignorance of the EU cost us human lives – the sea-grave is growing, even if we constantly fight against it.

20 million extra vaccine doses for the EU against Omicron

Up to 20 million doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine will be sent to EU members in the first three months of 2022.

The massive haul is purposed to curb the rapid spread of the Omicron COVID variant, the European Commission revealed. As Europe braces for a new wave of infections, this also comes as many countries reintroduce travel bans and restrictions.

Member states will get an additional five million doses of the Pfizer vaccine in January, followed by five million in February and a whopping 10 million in March.

‘These doses come on top of the already scheduled 195 million doses from Pfizer BioNTech, bringing the total number of delivers in the first quarter to 215 million.’

This means the EU is due to receive 650 million doses of Pfizer jabs in total in 2022.

Most health authorities are emphasising Omicron becoming the dominant strain by mid January in the EU. 67% of the EU population is fully vaccinated.
