Mużika Mużika 2023 now open following launch of Kurt Calleja’s ‘Bla Tarf’ music video

Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici announced the opening of applications for the festival Mużika Mużika’s third edition and launched the music video of Mużika Mużika 2022’s winning song.

Mużika Mużika 2023 is set to take place between the 23rd and the 25th of March 2023.

Dr Bonnici congratulated the organising team for the remarkable work in the last two editions. “We want to continue investing in this festival which also serves as a platform for artists to express themselves in our native language,” he said.

Dr Bonnici said: “This Festival celebrates the beauty of Maltese songs; it is nice to show appreciation for the Maltese language and music in such a beautiful way.”

“This festival,” Dr Bonnici said, “celebrates the beauty of Maltese music. We shall continue working so that this festival gains more popularity and keeps the annual appointment. We must ensure that more Maltese artists have opportunities to build professional musical careers”.

The Mużika Mużika Chairman, Mr Raymond Bugeja, praised the Festivals Malta team, which has managed to produce a high-quality product once again. He emphasised his desire for Mużika Mużika to reach even more diverse musical genres. “I am proud of the work Festivals Malta is producing. Mużika Mużika is constantly exceeding expectations in terms of production and creativity. I encourage singers, composers and authors to take the opportunity and be part of this prestigious festival.”

Festivals Malta Chairman, Mr Aaron Zahra, commented on the importance of Mużika Mużika both for Festivals Malta and for the Maltese language. Mr Zahra said, “We will once again commit ourselves to produce a festival of the highest level, for the singers, composers and authors who will take part, as well as for our audiences. I am sure the 2023 edition will be as successful as the previous ones.”

Festivals Malta CEO, Ms Annabelle Stivala, praised the quality of the production of the music video and thanked all those involved for their hard work and dedication. “An emotional music video required several hours of work by the dedicated team of Festivals Malta and many professionals in the sector. We started planning this music video just a few weeks after the festival; we involved various industry professionals to ensure the final product’s quality and safety on set.”

The prizes for Muzika Muzika 2023 will be €20,000 for first place, €10,000 for second place and €5,000 for third place.

Bla Tarf, performed by Kurt Calleja, written by Kurt Calleja and composed by Kurt Calleja, Aleandro Spiteri Monsigneur and Peter Borg, tells the story of a couple that manages to overcome every obstacle. The music video interpreted this story in an impressionistic style. It was shot by a team of professionals with the assistance of several members of the Civil Protection Department.

Applications for Mużika Mużika 2023 can be submitted online at www.muzikamuzika.mt or in person at Festivals Malta offices in Floriana. Applications close on the 15th of October 2022 at noon. Moviment Graffitti to hold public protest on Comino

Moviment Graffitti have announced that they will be holding a public protest on Saturday the 13th of August to reclaim Comino’s Blue Lagoon from the intensive commercial interests.

The pressure group have invited the public to join them and enjoy a summer day on Comino without the deckchairs and umbrellas that usually fill up the area.

In a statement Moviment Graffitti said “We will not accept a situation where a few people with money and political influence snatch what rightfully belongs to the people. Neither will we accept that these companies continue with their destruction of a nature reserve for their private profits,”

The movement have made there opinions clear when it comes to not only the number of umbrellas and deckchairs found in the Blue Lagoon but also the large boats that attract thousands of tourists every week.

People interested in joining in the protest should book there place with this registration form. The boats will leave from Ċirkewwa or Mġarr at 8am.

Robert Arrigo calls for Bernard Grech’s resignation following PN exit

Former Nationalist Party Deputy leader Robert Arrigo has called for the resignation of PN leader Bernard Grech, stating that he is lying to himself in light of recent revelations.

Arrigo took too Facebook to say that the internal report on Naxxar mayor was concluded, despite Grech saying it wasn’t; with the former deputy leader suggesting that Grech did not like the report’s conclusions. Back in December, the PN called for the resignation of Naxxar mayor Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami in light of an undisclosed conflict of interest.

“A Kap belittling, lying about his own party, about the board who is serious, and killing the Amminstrativ, who were made to look like idiots. A Kap lying to himself on tv,” Arrigo wrote.

He concluded his post suggesting resignation with “an honourable step is awaited”, previously remarking that “other honourable gentleman before him resigned after a result not as disastrous as this.”

Number of active businesses increase in Malta

The number of active businesses in Malta has increased by 8.6% in one year. This means that, in the space of just one year, 4,430 Maltese businesses have been created. This data was released by the National Statistics Office.

This brings the total number of active businesses in Malta to a whopping 60,000. The biggest increase of businesses has been in the storage and transport sectors, followed by technology, science and construction.

The majority of these businesses operate at a small scale with an average number of just nine employees. Last year there were 18,227 entities that employed people an increase of 8.5% from 2020.

Reportedly since last year 7 out of 10 companies have had only one owner. It was also reported that 82% of these new businesses were companies whilst 28% were non profit organisations.
