The Malta Tourism Authority  (MTA) has reportedly issued a permit which allows establishment Paradise Exiles to set up tables and chairs on Exiles Bay in Sliema.

When speaking to The Malta Independent’s Shona Berger, an MTA official confirmed that seating on the beach has been granted until end of June 2021 in light of the recent COVID-19 measures in place for bars and restaurants, generating a considerable amount of controversy due to the use of public space.

When questioned, Sliema Local Council Anthony Attard told The Malta Independent that these kinds of permits are not issued by the Sliema Council but by the Malta Tourism Authority.
