ERA condemned the act of vandalism, stating that holes had been drilled into the trees and an unidentified liquid poured into them.

They filed a police report and initiated sampling and laboratory analysis of the substance.

Moviment Graffitti expressed alarm over the situation, with Andre Callus highlighting signs of poisoning and indicating that the trees were not growing properly.

He criticized the environment ministry and Mosta council for their responsibility in caring for the trees. The Mosta Local Council condemned the attack on the trees, calling it unnecessary and emphasizing the importance of community collaboration to protect natural resources.

They acknowledged past mistakes and expressed commitment to working with residents and NGOs for environmental preservation. Both ERA and the Mosta council stressed the need for collective vigilance to safeguard the environment and uphold community values.

Taking to social media, Maltese MEP Cyrus Engerer urged the two political parties to sit down and discuss the Malta Metro.

This follows the unanimous voting in favour of Myriam Spiteri Debono as Malta’s next president.

Engerer said that, after yesterday’s vote, the parliament showed that compromise can be found between the two political parties.

‘Short term traffic measures are important’, he said. ‘But it’s the long term measures which are essential to have sustainable results and change the way we use our country’s spaces.’

Describing the metro as a long term solution, Engerer said that this can never come to fruition if there is no agreement between the government and the opposition.

‘It is time for the two parties to sit down and make this the project of all Maltese and Gozitan people. He highlighted how small cities in France and Switzerland have metros despite smaller populations, urging the Maltese to take action on the issue
