More Youths Choosing To Come To Malta Than Leaving

In response to a parliamentary question by Hon. Bernice Bonello, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana has revealed that more than 20,000 young people have left Malta over the past five years. However, more than 53,000 young people came to Malta.

The data, provided by the National Statistics Office, details yearly figures from 2019 to 2023, showing a consistent outflow of youths from the country. However, the figures also show an even greater number of young people arriving in Malta during the same period.
The table includes people who have lived in Malta for at least one year, as well as people who intend to live in Malta for at least one year and are therefore considered residents of Malta.
These figures include both individuals of Maltese nationality and those of foreign nationality. It is important that any interpretation of this data is made with the understanding that this data is based on estimates derived from records and alternative sources.
