For the past decade, the GħKNK Mellieħa and GħKNK Miżieb sub-committees have been actively engaged in environmental conservation, planting thousands of indigenous trees to restore natural habitats.
This commitment continued last weekend as GħKNK Mellieħa volunteers planted over 300 indigenous trees in Aħrax, alongside the installation of a new irrigation system.
These efforts followed the removal of invasive alien species like Acacia, helping to create a more suitable environment for native flora to flourish.
Several trees were generously provided by Ambjent Malta, whose collaboration has been invaluable in supporting this initiative.
Beyond enhancing biodiversity, this project ensures that Malta’s open spaces remain thriving, healthy ecosystems for future generations.
The newly planted trees will be carefully maintained by our members, reinforcing our long-term dedication to preserving the island’s natural heritage. Through these ongoing efforts, we continue to safeguard and restore Malta’s precious environment.
