Transport Malta launched its ‘Plan Ahead. Arrive Safe’ campaign to prepare for the back-to-school period, when traffic levels typically rise.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett and Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia confirmed that, starting Monday, 80 officials will be stationed across 33 locations to help manage heavier traffic during the winter routine.

Farrugia added that no infrastructural work permits will be issued during peak hours within 500 metres of schools, except in urgent cases.

The free tow truck service, first introduced in 2022, will also remain in place after proving successful in reducing delays by swiftly clearing vehicles following accidents.

Bonett further announced that from 28th September, a new Park & Ride facility in Ta’ Qali will open near the concert area.

The site will initially provide 120 spaces, with expansion plans underway, and will serve commuters travelling to Mosta, Naxxar, Mater Dei, and the University.

Concluding, Bonett acknowledged that while data shows traffic flow has improved on Maltese roads, congestion remains inevitable in a strong and active economy.
