Mar 18 2025 Share

February lived up to its reputation as a typically wet month, breaking the dry spell that had characterised the preceding months. The Meteorological Office recorded 88.2 mm of rainfall, surpassing the monthly average by 19.2 mm.

By St. Paul’s Feast Day on February 10th, rainfall had already reached 49 mm, meaning the first ten days of the month had already surpassed half of February’s typical rainfall (69 mm).

However, February 1965 remains the wettest February on record, with a total of 187.9 mm of rain.

The month was marked by three stormy days, including thunderstorms and two instances of hail. Despite the inclement weather, February experienced milder winds, with the average wind speed recorded at 8.8 knots. The strongest gust of the month occurred on February 8th, when winds from the east-southeast reached 36 knots.

In terms of temperature, February was 1°C warmer than the seasonal norm, with an average temperature of 13.6°C. The highest temperature recorded was 20.8°C on February 14th, while the coldest day was February 23rd, when temperatures dropped to 7.4°C.

‘SERVING’ Currently At 11th Place In Eurovision Odds

'SERVING' Currently At 11th Place In Eurovision Odds

Malta has steadily climbed a few steps of the Eurovision 2025 Odds ladder, following the reveal and release of the revamped song’s music video.

Changed from ‘KANT’ to ‘SERVING’, the song now sits at 11th place, just above Italy’s ‘Volevo esssere un duro’ and just below Albania’s ‘Zjerm’.

Miriana’s song made a massive hit, not just locally but even with an international Eurovision audience. With the song name having to be changed to the word’s association with the English word c*nt, the revamped song nonetheless retained the same energy and replaced the word with ‘ahhh’.

How do you think Miriana’s entry will perform this year?

Malta In Deal With Carnival Corporation To Reduce Grand Harbour Pollution

Malta In Deal With Carnival Corporation To Reduce Grand Harbour Pollution

The Maltese government has signed the first Shore Power Agreement in the Mediterranean cruise region with Carnival UK & P&O Cruises, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable maritime practices. Speaking at Villa Bighi in Kalkara, Prime Minister Robert Abela highlighted the initiative’s role in reducing emissions and improving air quality in the Grand Harbour.

The Shore-to-Ship project will allow cruise liners to connect to the grid while docked, cutting reliance on fuel-based power. Transport Malta’s agreement with Carnival UK ensures the company’s ships will utilise shore power, benefiting both residents and visitors. The initiative aligns with EU regulations but also positions Malta as a leader in green innovation. Cruise tourism significantly contributes to Malta’s economy, generating €88 million annually, with €40 million directly from passenger spending.

Minister for Transport Chris Bonett described the project as transformative, reducing pollution and placing Malta ahead of the EU’s 2030 deadline. Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli also attended the signing.

Paul Ludlow, President of Carnival UK & P&O Cruises, emphasised their commitment to sustainable travel and local partnerships. The European Onshore Power Supply Association (EOPSA) praised Malta’s proactive stance on decarbonisation.

P&O Cruises’ ships, including Azura, are set to utilise Malta’s shore power system, marking a significant step towards a greener maritime industry.
