Minister On The Idea Behind Fish Fridays

During a sit down interview with Malta Daily after the presentation of Budget 2026, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana explained the thinking behind the Fish Fridays proposal.

The Minister explained that the measure aims to introduce new tastes for students who might not be so familiar with certain foods, especially one that is a staple Maltese tradition.

He said that just like students are offered vegetables and fruit, they would now be able to taste the various fish related dishes that Malta is known for.

Of course, he said, no one would be forced to eat fish if they don’t like it and that no one would be bringing fish in their lunchbox from home.

Rather, it is an opportunity for kids to be exposed to different food in an educational context.
