Malta-based activist and artist Dali Aguerbi has been named one of ten recipients of the prestigious PEUGEOT Attitude PRIDE Awards Europe 2025.

The award, supported by British Airways and organised by leading LGBTQ+ publication Attitude magazine, celebrates unsung heroes in the LGBTQ+ community across Europe.

Originally from Tunisia, Aguerbi moved to Malta in 2018 after facing persecution due to his sexuality and activism. Since then, he has become a leading figure in LGBTQ+ advocacy, particularly in supporting queer migrants and asylum seekers.

He currently serves as a co-coordinator at the Malta Gay Rights Movement (MGRM), who congratulated him on his achievement.

Aguerbi’s work focuses on creating safe, inclusive spaces and providing essential resources to LGBTQ+ individuals navigating the asylum process.

This includes information on legal aid, food banks, and a monthly social group hosted by MGRM.

His activism began at age 18 in Tunisia, where homosexuality remains criminalised.

After narrowly escaping legal persecution, he sought asylum from Malta. During his acceptance speech, he praised Malta’s progress on LGBTQ+ rights but stressed that many migrants still face barriers.

The 2025 award also recognised other trailblazers including Spain’s first trans senator and the iconic Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign.
