Maltese endurance athlete Michelle Mifsud has made history by becoming the first Maltese woman to complete a Double Ironman Triathlon.

This remarkable feat took place at the prestigious Bretzel Ultra Triathlon in Bretzel Village, France, one of the most gruelling events in ultra-endurance sport.

Kicking off on Thursday, 3rd July at 8:00 a.m., the race challenged athletes to swim 7.6km, cycle 360km, and run 84.4km, double the standard Ironman distance.

Michelle completed the intense challenge in an impressive time of 28 hours, 36 minutes, and 54 seconds, crossing the finish line on Friday afternoon.

Her outstanding performance earned her 2nd place among the female competitors and 6th place overall, showcasing both her physical strength and mental toughness.

Despite the immense physical toll and mental fatigue, Michelle remained consistent throughout the event, managing each segment with grit and determination.

Beyond the course, Michelle balances life as a full-time working mother, making her accomplishment even more inspiring. “This experience pushed every limit I thought I had,” she said. “I hope it inspires others to believe anything is possible.”

Her achievement is a proud moment for Maltese sport, highlighting the island’s rising presence in international endurance competitions.
