Taking to social media, Maltese political leaders announced their welcoming of a ceasefire deal struck by Israel and Hamas.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola wrote on Twitter;

‘The announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza and an agreement to release hostages announced tonight is the breakthrough the world has waited and that so many have needed.’

‘It is critical that it is upheld. This can be a turning point for a sustainable peace, a surge of aid, and a catalyst that changes despair to hope.’

Prime Minister Robert Abela also welcomed the ceasefire deal, stating;

‘Countless lives have been lost & hostages endured untold ordeal. This ceasefire is what the world has hoped for and what the Israeli & Palestinian people need. Malta shall continue to support peace initiatives as it has always done.’

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech stated that he is ‘encouraged by the news of a ceasefire in Gaza, a moment for peace in the region.’

‘As leaders, we have a duty to work towards lasting peace & solidarity to save lives and alleviate human suffering. On my way to the EPP Leader’s Retreat in Berlin to champion these values.’
