Lionel Messi opened Paris Saint-Germain’s score against Nice in Ligue 1, making it his 702nd club goal in Europe.
And that means that, yes, the Argentine player has officially usurped long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 701 goals, with Messi having achieved it despite playing 105 fewer matches than Ronaldo.
Messi’s goal 26-minutes in was his 14th in the league, and he has 13 goal assists to couple with that.
According to Fox Sports, Messi now has over 1,000 goal contributions at the club level with 702 goals and 298 assists. This means that Messi was directly involved in more goals than anyone else so far in the league.
This comes as speculation spreads about a potential deal by Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal worth $440 million per year as well as Barcelona and Inter Miami CF for the world class player.
