This comprehensive review highlights the company’s key initiatives, their impact, and Meridianbet’s vision for the future.

Community Engagement and Social Impact

Supporting Vulnerable Communities

In March 2024, coinciding with International Women’s Day, Meridianbet extended its support to SOAR, a service under the St Jeanne Antide Foundation, for the second consecutive year. This donation aids survivors of domestic violence, helping women and children rebuild their lives within the community.

Byron Falzon, Operations Manager for Meridianbet Malta, emphasized, “At Meridianbet, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. These initiatives are not just about donations; they’re about spreading hope and making a tangible difference in people’s lives.”

Empowering Education

The Meridianbet Foundation celebrated the fifth year of its global scholarship program in 2024, extending across most markets where Meridianbet operates. This initiative provides substantial financial awards and valuable industry exposure to exceptional students, bridging the gap between academia and the tech industry.

A scholarship recipient shared, “This support has not only eased my financial burden but has also opened doors to practical experiences in the tech industry. It’s truly a springboard for my future career.”

Environmental Sustainability Efforts

Meridianbet has taken significant strides in environmental conservation:

Partnership with Nature Trust Malta: Meridianbet donated funds to Nature Trust’s wildlife rehabilitation centre, supporting the care of Malta’s wildlife, including marine turtles, hedgehogs, and bats.

Support for Malta Ranger Unit (MRU): The company’s donation to MRU aids in addressing environmental concerns such as illegal waste dumping and unauthorized fishing.

Employee-Led Initiatives: Meridianbet organized in-house global afforestation programs and public cleanup campaigns, demonstrating a grassroots commitment to environmental stewardship.

Promoting Responsible Gaming

In June 2024, Meridianbet collaborated with the Responsible Gaming Foundation to enhance its “Betting Awareness” program. This partnership focuses on developing educational resources, improving community engagement, and creating interactive tools to help customers monitor their gambling habits responsibly.

Diversity and Inclusion

Meridianbet continues to lead by example in promoting gender equality and diversity:

Women make up over 55% of the company’s top management, rising to 62% in African markets and 56% in European markets.

The company actively supports initiatives that empower women and advocate for the end of violence in all its forms.

Looking Ahead: CSR Vision for 2025 and Beyond

As Meridianbet looks to the future, the company is setting ambitious goals for its CSR initiatives:

Expanding the Scholarship Program: Plans are underway to introduce the scholarship initiative in Malta and other new markets.

Enhanced Environmental Focus: Meridianbet aims to significantly reduce its carbon footprint and increase support for global conservation efforts.

Technology for Social Good: Leveraging its tech expertise, Meridianbet plans to develop innovative solutions addressing social and environmental challenges.

Global Community Impact: The company intends to scale its community engagement projects, aiming to touch more lives across its operational markets.

Industry Leadership in Responsible Gaming: Meridianbet is committed to setting new standards in responsible gaming practices, with plans to launch advanced tools and resources for player protection.

A spokesperson for Meridianbet commented, “Our CSR initiatives are not just a part of our business; they’re at the heart of who we are as a company. As we move forward, we’re committed to creating even more meaningful impact, leveraging our global presence and technological capabilities to drive positive change.”

Meridianbet’s comprehensive approach to CSR, spanning community support, environmental conservation, education, and responsible gaming, showcases a company deeply committed to making a positive impact. Rebecca Buttigieg On Kids Withdrawn Due To Gay Teacher

Rebecca Buttigieg On Kids Withdrawn Due To Gay Teacher

Taking to social media, Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg spoke out about the case wherein parents withdrew their kids from a school due to them discovering that their teacher was gay.

‘Shouldn’t love be the most important lesson our children are taught at a young age’, asked Buttigieg.

‘It’s instances like these that remind us why we cannot pause or stop fighting for LGBTIQ+ rights.’

In a separate Facebook post, Buttigieg said that this is why, when she is asked whether enough has been done in terms of LGBTIQ+ rights and equality, she answers by saying that more needs to be done as these ‘mistaken mentalities’ still persist.

‘Every parent wants their best for their child but I can never understand how the identity of a person can affect their professionalism.’

This comes after Times of Malta reported on the incident, saying that the parents, citing their “personal Christian” values, objected to their children being taught by someone “who is not straight” and decided to transfer them to a “more suitable” environment, the newsroom reported.

The situation was also addressed by PL MP Rosianne Cutajar, who said that it is ‘absurd that in 2025 there are still people who look at gay people as a danger to society.’

‘Sexual orientation is not something that is transmitted or less competent. The irony is that these parents, who said that they withdrew their children with the pretext of protecting them, are not realising that the drastic decision will leave a negative psychological impact on them as they have to start everything from scratch, make new friends and get used to a new environment.’

‘Solidarity with this teacher and well done to Santa Clara College for, as is correct, supported him fully.’

Meanwhile, Minister Julia Farrugia posted a video on Facebook where she explained her opinion about this situation.

The Malta Business Registry (MBR), in collaboration with the History Teachers’ Association (HTA), successfully organised an engaging History Day for secondary school students. Over 200 students, accompanied by their history teachers, participated in this educational initiative aimed at exploring history in an interactive and dynamic manner.

Held outside the traditional classroom setting, the event featured a variety of hands-on activities. Students immersed themselves in the past through historical re-enactments, falconry displays, archery sessions, and Virtual Reality experiences. These activities highlighted key eras such as the Medieval period, Roman times, and World War II, illustrating their influence on modern society.

The students also had the chance to interact with HTA members, who emphasised the importance of studying history and its relevance to career opportunities. This exchange was designed to inspire a deeper appreciation for the subject.

Aligned with MBR’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, the initiative aimed to promote educational development and community engagement.
