MEP Peter Agius Organises Youth Event At European Parliament

MEP Peter Agius organised a special event at the European Parliament, allowing young participants to experience life as Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) for a day.

The attendees engaged in debates and voting sessions on crucial EU topics, including defence spending and social media regulation.

Former MEP Simon Busuttil, along with current MEPs Regina Doherty from Ireland and Martine Kemp from Luxembourg, joined the event.

They shared insights from their parliamentary careers, guiding participants through discussions, negotiations, and the voting process. This initiative provided an invaluable hands-on learning experience, inspiring youth to engage in European politics.

60% Of Malta’s Streets Being Cleaned Daily

In a recent conference, Minister Miraim Dalli highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance street cleanliness. Whereby the Cleansing and Maintenance Division has reported a significant 40% reduction in complaints over the past two years

Over 60% of residential streets across the island are now cleaned daily, benefiting communities in over 20 local councils.

Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield highlighted the success of the agreements with 23 local councils, stating, “Through close collaboration with local councils, we’re not just addressing cleanliness occasionally, but making it an integral part of daily life.” He also noted that over 870 streets are now cleaned every day.

PM Opens UP On Jean Paul Sofia Tragedy

Responding to a question posed to him during Popolin as to what could have been handled better during these past 3 years in government, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the tragedy of Jean Paul Sofia was the one which taught him a lot.

Abela said that that was a moment where he could have explained things better and where all the ‘legal nuances’ should not have intruded into a much more personal and human matter.

He went on to say that he remained in contact with Jean Paul Sofia’s parents and that the episode continued to strengthen one of his values – empathy.

‘You need to always put yourself in someone else’s shoes – especially when there’s suffering. And what worse suffering is there than losing your child’, the Prime Minister concluded.

Jean Paul Sofia died tragically at the age of 20 years old in 2022 when a construction site collapsed at the Corradino Industrial Estate.

Majority Don’t Want Marvic Eliminated From Big Brother

We asked you – our followers – whether you think Marvic should be evicted from the Big Brother Malta House… and well, there was quite a clear answer.

A whopping 1,500 respondents said that they don’t want Marvic eliminated, despite his rule breaking leading the prize money being slashed down to €4,000 and despite he himself saying (and breaking a rule in the process) that he’d like to suspend himself before Josline got eliminated.

Only 433 voted for him to be eliminated.

Many said that rules are meant to be broken, pointing to the ‘natural’ setting of the reality TV show format as a reason as to why contestants might end up forgetting about the rules in the first place.

Others said that the other contestants also broke the rules multiple times but were not evicted, and asked that the same standard be applied across the board.
